Affiliated Foods Midwest Scholarships
If you or your children will be attending college next fall (minimum half-time) at one of our approved local colleges, you (or your dependent) may qualify for a company-sponsored scholarship available to help with the cost! Deadlines for applying for college scholarships will be approaching soon, so be sure to contact the college financial aid office to obtain the scholarship application and deadline for applying!
Qualifying colleges for the Norfolk location are: Northeast Community College and Wayne State College.
For Elwood employees, the qualifying colleges are Missouri Western and Highland Community College.
For Kenosha employees, the colleges designated in the Kenosha area are Gateway Technical College and Univ of WI, Parkside.
Remember: Contact the financial aid offices for applications and follow their deadlines.
Many deadlines are late January to mid February so be sure to act quickly.

Employees of our Retail Store Members and/or their dependents may qualify for Grocery Association scholarships if the store for which they work is a member of the Association and the application criteria is met:

National Grocers Association:
Women Grocers of America (WGA) is offering at least two academic scholarships worth a minimum of $1,000 each to students intending to pursue a grocery industry-related career. This includes majors in areas such as food marketing management, food service technology, communications and business management/administration. (This does not include majors in the public health and hotel/restaurant fields.) WGA and N.G.A. members and their employees, children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren are eligible for scholarship nomination. Applicants must attend a U.S. college or university, have a 2.0 grade point average or better and be entering sophomores or continuing students in good standing in a two-year, associate degree-granting institution or four-year, bachelor degree-granting institution or graduate program. To be considered, the completed scholarship application, transcript and other requested material must be postmarked by June 1. Scholarship recipients will be chosen in a lottery from the qualified pool of applicants by the WGA board of directors during their summer meeting. The Asparagus Club Scholarships are one-year awards that range in amount from $500 to $1,500. The awards may be used at any accredited, non-profit college or university in the United States. Applicants must be full-time college students in the fall, have an interest in a career in the grocery industry, have financial need and can make, or are making satisfactory academic progress in college. State Grocery Organization Scholarships:
Employees of retailers may qualify for scholarships if the retailer belongs to its state grocery association. Check for your state association's scholarship information below:
Nebraska Grocery Industry Association Scholarship Program
Eligibility:
- Employees, and their children, of firms that are members of NGIA are eligible to apply for a scholarship.
- Employees must have been employed for at least one year as of the scholarship deadline in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. They must also still be employed at the time the scholarship is awarded .
- Applicants must be high school seniors that have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
Scholarship Award:
- The scholarship award will be a one-time, non-renewable grant of $1,000.
- The NGIA scholarship will be applied toward tuition and fees.
Application Procedure:
Members are asked to make copies of the request for application form, available to their employees. Applicants should mail this form to NGIA. NGIA will then mail a scholarship application to them. MINNESOTA GROCERS ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The program runs January 15, 2010 through March 15, 2010. Completed applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2010, or apply online Jan. 15 - April 1, 2010. This is a great chance to earn extra money for college and we award several $1000 scholarships each year.
Who is eligible? High school seniors, college freshman, sophomores and juniors that are sons and daughters of full-time employees of retailers or wholesalers who are member of the Minnesota Grocers Association or part-time employees that are full time students.

ILLINOIS FOOD RETAILERS EDUCATION FOUNDATION COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION IS APRIL 1, 2010
The Illinois Food Retailers Education Foundation awards a number of $1000 college scholarships each year.
Who is eligible?
- Sons and daughters of full-time employees of firms that are members of the Illinois Food Retailers Association. The parent employee must have been employed for at least two years as of January 1st of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
- Part-time employees who are full-time students employed by firms that are members of the Illinois Food Retailers Association. The applicant must have been employed for at least six months as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
Selections of Winners:
Scholarship winners will be selected in April, 2010 by a panel of educators. All applicants will be notified by May 15th. Winners must enroll in college as full-time students in the fall of the year for which the scholarships are awarded.

KANSAS FOOD DEALERS' ASSOCIATION (KFDA)
High school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are sons and daughters of full-time employees of Kansas-based firms can apply for a Kansas Food Dealers' Association (KFDA) Scholarship. The parent-employee must have been employed for at least one year as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded. Part-time employees who are full-time students who are employed by Kansas-based firms may also apply. Applicants must have worked an average of 15 hours a week for at least six months as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded. Completed applications must be received at the KRDA office by mid-April. Application forms are available by contacting Kansas Food Dealers, 913-384-3838.
THE MISSOURI GROCER'S ASSOCIATION
Your son or daughter may qualify for scholarships from the Missouri Grocers Association or the Minnesota Grocers Education Foundation if you have been employed by Affiliated Foods Midwest or by a retailer who is a member of the MGA for at least two years as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarships are awarded. Students may qualify for the Missouri Grocer Association Scholarship if they have been employed at least 6 months and work part-time for a firm that is a member of MGA. IOWA GROCERY INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION
Sons and daughters of full-time Affiliated Foods Midwest employees or part-time employees who are full-time students are eligible to apply for the Iowa Grocery Industry Association Scholarship as well as employees of retailers who are members of the association. The full-time parent employee must have been employed with Affiliated Foods Midwest or the retail member for at least two years as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarship is awarded. Employees (full-time or part-time) who are full-time students employed by firms, which are members of IGA, must have worked a minimum of 360 hours for the 6-month period from July 1 to December 31 of the year prior to which the scholarship is awarded. To obtain a scholarship application and descriptive brochure, you must send a postcard request that must be postmarked by February 10th. Postcards are available from posters in warehouse break rooms or fill out the application request form on-line at www.iowagrocers.com. WISCONSIN GROCERS ASSOCIATION Education & Scholarship Foundation
The Wisconsin Grocers Association Education and Scholarship Foundation is please to announce funds have been committed to financial scholarships and will be made available to employees of WGA members. (Affiliated Foods Midwest is a member) All scholarship applications for the school term must be postmarked on or before February 1st.
Scholarship Eligibility
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must:
- Be attending a college or university in the fall.
- Be a current employee of a dues paying member (AFMW or the store you work at) of the Wisconsin Grocers Association and have been employed for six months at the time of this application process. Continuing college/university students must have worked a minimum of 10 weeks or 250 hours in the prior year.
- Carry a minimum of a nine-hour credit load unless you are applying for a scholarship for a single course.
- Have maintained a B grade average (3.0 based on a 4.0 scale.)
Michigan Grocers Foundation
2010-2011 Scholarship Applications The Michigan Grocers Foundation will award a number of Paul M. Felice Memorial Scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. The scholarships will be one-year, non-renewable awards of up to $1,000. Scholarship applications will be available to eligible applicants beginning February 1, 2010. The deadline for submitting completed applications is April 1, 2010.
Who is Eligible?
High School seniors, college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are:
- Sons and daughters of full-time and part-time employees of firms which are members of the Michigan Grocers Association. The parent-employee must have been employed for at least one year as of January 1, 2010.
- Part-time employees who are full-time students and are employed by firms which are members of the Michigan Grocers Association. Applicants must have been employed for at least six months as of January 1, 2010.
- A "Michigan connection" is also required. The student must be a Michigan resident (home/permanent address) or the student's (or parent's) qualifying worksite must be located in the State of Michigan.

IDDBA Food Safety Certification Reimbursement Program
Through the program, IDDBA-member retailers can have a portion of their costs reimbursed for specified training materials, workshops, and food safety certification exams for dairy, deli, and bakery employees who successfully complete a certification exam."We hope this program will encourage retail members to certify their dairy, deli, and bakery department managers and associates in food safety. Store managers are often the professionals certified, but we think it's important for perishable managers and associates to also be certified. This IDDBA program supports retailer's efforts to achieve this goal" Mary Kay O'Connor, IDDBA's director of education, said.

IDDBA Undergraduate/Graduate Scholarship Program
The IDDBA Scholarship program was developed in order to support employees of supermarket dairy, deli, and bakery industries, and encourage them to continue in those industries. The IDDBA has awarded many thousands of dollars in scholarships to supermarket dairy, deli and bakery employees since the program’s inception in 2001. Awards from $250 to $1,000 per candidate, per semester are available to high school seniors and current or returning college or vocational/technical students. Applicants do not have to be employed only in the dairy, deli or bakery departments to qualify.Applicants are required to:
1. Be a current employee (during your college school year) of an IDDBA member company. (Affiliated Foods Midwest is a member of IDDBA)
2. Have an academic major in a food-related field, business, or marketing.
3. Have a 2.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent (waived for returning adult students).
