AFM Introduces Derek Helderman

Hi! I’m Derek Helderman, a Corporate Registered Dietitian for Affiliated Foods Midwest. Food and nutrition is an exciting, ever-changing and sometimes controversial topic. It can sometimes seem that emerging nutrition research and news can be contradictory. I’m excited to serve as a resource to help clear up any nutrition questions or confusion you may have.

I’m a native of Southeast Missouri. I received my undergraduate education from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I completed my dietetic internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Through the course of my internship, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to world class medical care and research, as well as a wide variety of community nutrition, nutrition education and nutrition counseling opportunities.


I enjoy educating others about the fascinating world of nutrition and wellness, as well as dispelling nutrition misinformation. The supermarket can be a daunting place to make decisions. I enjoy helping consumers make the healthiest choices possible for themselves and their families while staying ever conscious of financial constraints, emerging trends and research.
